Direct (Unattended) Cremations

What does a Direct Cremation involve?

A ‘direct’ or ‘unattended’ cremation service is an increasingly popular choice for people who want to do things with more flexibility or avoid paying for a lot of extra things that you may not feel are needed.

The arrangement meeting with us will involve completion of the required forms and discussing any additional requests and detail any additional fees that may be payable, such as doctors fees or out of hours/home collection fees.

Payment for this service is required ahead of the funeral, usually at the arrangement meeting.

Thankfully due to our relationship with the Westerleigh group through our trade organisation SAIF, we are currently able to offer this service starting at the very competitive price of £995. You won’t find another local company that can offer the level of service we provide at such a competitive price.

Prices start at £995 which covers a simple coffin, the cremation fee, bringing someone into our care from a hospital or nursing home during working hours.

Additional costs may include:

  • Doctors fee from Cremation Form 4 - £82

  • Bringing the person into our care out of hours - £100

  • Dressing the person in their own clothes and visiting the person in our chapel of rest - £200

Small Ceremonies at our Chapel

In addition to a direct cremation we also offer the option of having a small gathering at our premises, usually the day before the cremation is due to take place.

Doing so we can provide a full funeral service for a small group without the costs of transportation or the crematorium fees. It also allows flexibilty with times and dates as you are not limited to slots at the Crematorium or normal working hours.

Costs for this service start at around £1600 depending on your requirements.

Required paperwork

In order to arrange the service we will need to obtain or complete the following documents to submit to the crematorium:

Registrar’s Certificate for Burial or Cremation

Known as the ‘Green Form’, this is either given to you at your appointment to register the death or sent to us directly following that appointment.

Application for Cremation (Form 1)

This is your application form, completed either in person with us or via email and electronic signature.

Crematorium Particulars Forms

Not all crematoria have these, but the local ones do. This form is usually filled in by us but will need a signature from you. It can also be completed either in person with us or via email and electronic signature.

Medical Certificates (Forms 4 & 5)

These forms will be completed by medical professionals, either from a Hospital or the local surgery. This is usually collected by us or sent to us directly. These forms will not be required if the Coroner is involved. There is also a fee which we pay on your behalf for these forms, currently £82 each.

Certificate of Coroner

This form will replace forms 4 & 5 if the Coroner is involved. This form is usually sent directly to us.
