Your loved one has a terminal diagnosis, what do you do?
It can feel like being hit by a train. You went to see the consultant and they delivered the shattering news that your loved one has a terminal diagnosis and not long to live. You weren’t prepared for this news. You yourself feel wretched but want to keep strong for your loved one. The world seems to be crashing in on you. You suddently feel remorseful about the times you have been less than patient. All sorts of terrible thoughts trouble you. You worry about how you will cope. You anticipate the worst. One moment you are terrified, the next your are in denial. You just need to talk in confidence with someone who can give you clear and simple help, your brain can’t cope with all of this alone. Maybe you need a pre-bereavement coach.
A bit about your coach
‘Kate was understanding of my situation. She helped me to lose some of the bad feelings I was having and to be able to be there for my partner. She also made lots of really practical suggestions as to things I could do that would help us in those lasts days and hours. I am eternally grateful.’
‘Kate enabled me to process my feelings about knowing I was going to lose my partner. She walked me through the experiences that were happening to me and my wife, she gave practical advice where necessary and really helped me to be able to cope when the time came for me to give my wife permission to die’.
I am a former teacher, trained therapist, soul advocate (death doula) and spiritual coach/spiritual companion, trained by William Bloom (Diploma in Spiritual Coaching and Caregiving Crossfields Institute) and NLP Master Practitioner.
I have been helping people deal with loss for over 18 years.
Personally I have walked alongside two partners and both parents as they approached death. I found my own ways to cope and have gathered many useful methods and approaches along the way that help others in similar situations.
My influences range through Stephen Jenkinson, Dr Brian Weiss to Dr Kathryn Mannix, and of course my tutor, Dr William Bloom.
I am in my early 60’s, live on a smallholding in rural north Worcestershire with my son, his wife, my granddaughter and a couple who house share with me plus two cats and three dogs.
In other areas of my life I facilitate funerals, pursue art projects, write books for children on death and try to meditate and do a little yoga every day.
