If the death happens at home and has not already been reported:

• If you are at home then call 999 for an ambulance, the police may also attend.

• If someone dies in hospital or a hospice, the medical team will take care of the next steps.

• The Coroner may become involved and arrange for your loved one to be taken into their care while enquiries are carried out. This is usually done by the Coronial undertaker, so it may not be be us that comes out to you at this stage.

• The Coroner may decide that a post-mortem examination is needed to establish the cause of death.

Although these steps can feel difficult and overwhelming, they are an important part of ensuring everything is handled correctly.
